Episode 28 ~ Meet Michael Brubaker of the Atlanta History Center

Welcome to Episode 28 of the Family History Expos Genealogy Podcast series, with your host DearMYRTLE.

Myrt's guest for the podcast is Michael Brubaker, who will present at the upcoming Mesa Arizona Family History Expo, to be held 14-15 November 2008 at the Mesa Convention Center. This year's theme is  "CyberExchange 101: Learn the tech to search your roots".

Michael is currently an archivist, and genealogist, at the Atlanta History Center in Atlanta, Georgia. He has been working in Genealogy for nearly 30 years. His current research involves using city directories and county records he is working to identify the undocumented residents of Atlanta and Fulton County, Georgia.

MICHAEL'S CLASSES

TITLE: Conducting Oral History for Family History Research
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: All
DESCRIPTION: We are all instructed to begin our Genealogy by speaking to our oldest living relatives. But what information should we seek in these conversations? What do we do with this information once we have it? These questions, and more, will be addressed in a straight forward discussion about procedures and techniques for collecting and using oral histories.

TITLE:  Beyond the Obituary: Using Newspapers in Family History Research
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: All
DESCRIPTION: Moving beyond obituaries and death announcements, this program will focus on the various bits of information available in newspaper columns. We will look at samples of gossip columns, news reports, and legal notices as sources of information for Family History research.

Classes
Pre-registration (through 1 Nov 2008) is $75 for the classes. Late registration is $90. At-the-door registration is $50 per day. You will receive a registration packet, name tag, CD syllabus, and a goody bag. Please pick these up when you check in at the event.  For those wishing to receive their syllabus as a printed book there is an additional cost of $24.95 plus shipping. Books will not ship until after the event. For your convenience we will have them available to pick up at the Expo if you like.

The exhibit hall is open to the public at no cost.
