Welcome to Episode 21 of the Family History Expos Genealogy Podcast series, with your host DearMYRTLE.

Myrt's guest for the podcast is Jean Wilcox Hibben, Ph. D., a presenter at the upcoming Mesa Arizona Family History Expo, to be held 14-15 November 2008 at the Mesa Convention Center. This year's theme is  "CyberExchange 101: Learn the tech to search your roots".

A native of the Chicago area, Jean Wilcox Hibben has a PhD in folklore and MA degree in Speech Communication. A national speaker and former college professor, Jean is a Board-Certified genealogist. She is Staff Trainer for the Corona, CA Family History Center and President of the Corona Genealogical Society.

JEAN'S CLASSES

TITLE: This is not Your Grandma’s Genealogy: Making the Move from Paper to Electronic Record Keeping
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: All levels of non-computer users; beginning genealogists
DESCRIPTION: The computer age can be intimidating to those who have been keeping their genealogical records on paper. This presentation gives some tips to those who have not yet been convinced that modern technology has a viable place in the field of family history. The topics cover the advantages and disadvantages of computer over paper but do not detail all the “hows” of operating a computer.

TITLE: Genealogy on Wheels: Doing Family History Research in an RV
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: All levels
DESCRIPTION: Enhance on-site research: try "RVing." Advantages and disadvantages of different types of RVs, along with the cautions and considerations (for before and during the trip), as well as ways to incorporate technology while on the road will be discussed.

TITLE: County Web sites: An Overlooked Resource
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: All levels
DESCRIPTION: A large amount of helpful information can be found on websites maintained by volunteers; one type of these is the county site – supplying information of interest to genealogical researchers. Learn how to locate such sites, the different types of information available, how to navigate the sites, etc.

Classes
Pre-registration (through 1 Nov 2008) is $75 for the classes. Late registration is $90. At-the-door registration is $50 per day. You will receive a registration packet, name tag, CD syllabus, and a goody bag. Please pick these up when you check in at the event.  For those wishing to receive their syllabus as a printed book there is an additional cost of $24.95 plus shipping. Books will not ship until after the event. For your convenience we will have them available to pick up at the Expo if you like.

The exhibit hall is open to the public at no cost.
