Episode 18 ~ Meet John Vilburn of Ohana Software

Welcome to Episode 18 of the Family History Expos Genealogy Podcast series, with your host DearMYRTLE.

Myrt's guest for the podcast is John Vilburn , from www.ohanasoftware.com, who will be presenting at the upcoming Mesa Arizona Family History Expo, to be held 14-15 November 2008 at the Mesa Convention Center. This year's theme is  "CyberExchange 101: Learn the tech to search your roots".

John Vilburn is the founder and owner of Ohana Software. He is the developer of PAF Insight and FamilyInsight. John graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in computer science and has been working in the software development field for over 25 years. He has been developing genealogy software for the last 5 years and loves every minute of it. He loves family history and enjoys sharing the excitement of genealogy with others.

JOHN'S CLASSES

TITLE: FamilyInsight and new FamilySearch (presented 2 times on Friday, and 2 times on Saturday)
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: All levels
DESCRIPTION: This class we will discuss and demonstrate how to ready your file for New FamilySearch. Then how to synchronize your PAF or GEDCOM file with new FamilySearch. This will be a two way synchronization where you can match your records with records found in new FamilySearch and add new information to your file as well as add new information or people from your file to new FamilySearch. While you are synchronizing you can also merge duplicate records in New FamilySearch using FamilyInsight.

The Uncombine mode of FamilyInsight will also be demonstrated – showing how to easily separate records that have been combined in error.

GetMyAncestors, the free program from Ohana Software, will also be demonstrated briefly. This program allows users to download family files from New.FamilySearch and make a PAF file. This is especially useful for those beginning that do not have their file on their personal computer and desire to have a file of their own. Available for Mac or PC.

Classes
Pre-registration (through 1 Nov 2008) is $75 for the classes. Late registration is $90. At-the-door registration is $50 per day. You will receive a registration packet, name tag, CD syllabus, and a goody bag. Please pick these up when you check in at the event.  For those wishing to receive their syllabus as a printed book there is an additional cost of $24.95 plus shipping. Books will not ship until after the event. For your convenience we will have them available to pick up at the Expo if you like.

Exhibit Hall
The exhibit hall is open to the public at no cost.
