This year's theme is  "CyberExchange 101: Learn the tech to search your roots".

Arlene is president and founder of The Genealogical Institute, Inc. Dr. Eakle is a professional genealogist with more than 30 years experience in research, consulting, lecturing, and as an author. She is an expert in tracing families from New York, Southern U.S., British Isles, Switzerland, and parts of Germany. She claims a 96% success rate.

ARLENE'S CLASSES

TITLE: Early Virginia Research: The Jurisdictional Challenge
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Experienced - Advanced
DESCRIPTION: Virginia has unique jurisdictions that create records on specific segments of the population. These records often survive when the courthouse burns. So major record loss does not stop your pedigree. The records for these jurisdictions have been unavailable until recently—you will be searching sources not yet examined by other researchers, increasing your chances of finding your difficult-to-find Virginia ancestors.

TITLE: Why Property Records Are Important in Tracing Hard-to-Find Ancestors
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Experienced - Advanced
DESCRIPTION: Property records in America form a complete record system. As well as a complex record system. This session examines the property system in the United States along with the legal background of the records produced. Then each record type is discussed in detail: how to read the records, how to fit the property records together to prove father-son and grandmother- granddaughter relationships. Also discussed: at what age can a person buy, sell, and inherit.

TITLE: Evaluating Genealogical Evidence or, How do I know my records are accurate?
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Experienced - Advanced
DESCRIPTION: Collecting, compiling, matching evidence correctly so that your records are both documented and proven. Also discussed: resolving discrepancies, "slips of the tongue" evidence, family traditions, and how to by-pass record source failure--burned courthouses, "Lost' records. Special analysis tools will be demonstrated.

Classes
Pre-registration (through 1 Nov 2008) is $75 for the classes. Late registration is $90. At-the-door registration is $50 per day. You will receive a registration packet, name tag, CD syllabus, and a goody bag. Please pick these up when you check in at the event.  For those wishing to receive their syllabus as a printed book there is an additional cost of $24.95 plus shipping. Books will not ship until after the event. For your convenience we will have them available to pick up at the Expo if you like.
