Episode 12 ~ Meet Jim Greene of FamilySearch

Welcome to Episode 12 of the Family History Expos Genealogy Podcast series, with your host DearMYRTLE.

Myrt's guest for the podcast is Jim Greene, from www.FamilySearch.org, who will be presenting at the upcoming Mesa Arizona Family History Expo, to be held 14-15 November 2008 at the Mesa Convention Center. This year's theme is  "CyberExchange 101: Learn the tech to search your roots".

Jim Greene has over 25 years experience in the computer industry, having worked both at IBM and Novell before coming to FamilySearch.org five years ago to work as a Product Manager on the new FamilySearch. Jim has been responsible for researching, gathering and communicating user requirements for the design of the new FamilySearch. Jim currently is the product manager over the research Wiki and the Family History Library.

TITLE: The FamilySearch Wiki: What is it and why do I care?
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: All levels
DESCRIPTION: Inevitably, even in the cleanest family trees, an end-of-line brick wall will appear. There will be many clues left by prior generations that will point to a likely place to look, and a general time frame. But how do you find out what sources of information exist? Which sources are the best for this time and place? Where do you go to find them? In the past these simple questions could have spelled the difference between going on with personal family history research, or giving up in despair. The FamilySearch Wiki is designed to facilitate attacks on the end-of-line brick walls. It forms a community where the most up-to-date information is always available. TITLE: FamilySearch Labs: What they are and Why you need to know
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: All levels

REGISTRATION

Classes
Pre-registration (through 1 Nov 2008) is $75 for the classes. Late registration is $90. At-the-door registration is $50 per day. You will receive a registration packet, name tag, CD syllabus, and a goody bag. Please pick these up when you check in at the event.  For those wishing to receive their syllabus as a printed book there is an additional cost of $24.95 plus shipping. Books will not ship until after the event. For your convenience we will have them available to pick up at the Expo if you like.

Exhibit Hall
The exhibit hall is open to the public at no cost.
