Episode 1 ~ Meet Holly T. Hansen, President of Family History Expos.com

Welcome to the debut of the Family History Expos Genealogy Podcast series, with your host DearMYRTLE.

Holly T. Hansen, president of www.FamilyHistoryExpos.com (formerly MyAncestorsFound.com) joins Myrt to discuss the upcoming Mesa Arizona Family History Expo, to be held 14-15 November 2008 at the Mesa Convention Center. This year's theme "CyberExchange 101: Learn the tech to search your roots" will be presented by keynote speaker Don R. Anderson, Senior Vice President at FamilySearch.

CLASSES
The Mesa Family History Expo offers ten classes each hour featuring top-notch regional and national genealogy instructors. FamilySearch will sponsor 2 tracks of classes each hour, and Ancestry.com is sponsoring 1 track of classes each hour. Attendees may choose from special classes for beginners to advanced classes including topics for both US and non-US ancestry. Other classes include tips on locating lesser known archives and records groups. Click to view the class line-up and listing of presenters. Over the next few weeks Ol' Myrt will interview some 44 of the presenters and vendors to get the inside scoop about what they'll be discussing at the Expo.

EXHIBITS
Try out new software before you decide to buy, pick up a couple of the latest genealogy books, and spend time with website database managers see how their websites will help with your research challenges.

BANQUET
Aside from time to attend classes, visit the exhibit hall, talk with vendors, and network with other family historian, each Expo features a fun-filled Friday evening dinner and guest speaker. This event is no exception. Beau Scharbrough, Footnote.com's Vice President of Content will get the ball rolling with his presentation "Genealogy, Music and Cyber Space: Bringing it all together". In conjunction with sponsoring the banquet, Footnote is offering free access to their website to all banquet attendees. This is a fantastic opportunity to begin using the website, look at scanned images of original documents from the (US) National Archives, and set up story pages with spotlights for the records that mention your ancestor. (Myrt is busy spotlighting some 243 pages from the Published Pennsylvania Archives that mention her French & Indian War veteran (Johannes) Conrad Weiser.)

REGISTRATION
The link to register online to attend the 2-day 2008 Mesa Arizona Family History Expo is located at MyAncestorsFound.com.

Classes
Pre-registration (through 1 Nov 2008) is $75 for the classes. Late registration is $90. At-the-door registration is $50 per day. You will receive a registration packet, name tag, CD syllabus, and a goody bag. Please pick these up when you check in at the event.  For those wishing to receive their syllabus as a printed book there is an additional cost of $24.95 plus shipping. Books will not ship until after the event. For your convenience we will have them available to pick up at the Expo if you like.

Exhibit Hall
The exhibit hall is open to the public at no cost.

Banquet  
The Friday evening (6:30 PM) banquet, sponsored by the Footnote.com, features a musical journey with Beau Sharbrough. Bring your partner and a friend to dinner -- they do not have to be registered for classes to enjoy the evening.
